January 1 - January 7

Happy New Year! We’re here, we made it into a new year, and furthermore we made it through 2020. While 2020 had many difficulties, it will forever be marked as one of the most pivotal and happiest years of my life. We got engaged on January 1, 2020 and then we got married in November! It definitely was not the season in which I envisioned planning our wedding or all our wedding festivities, but ultimately we had the most wonderful and beautiful season of engagement in 2020 and most importantly…. started our life together as husband and wife! This week was a special week of celebrating a new year, our anniversary of engagement, having our FIRST visitors to North Carolina, and spending quality time with each other.

New Years Eve + Our First Visitors

Our first New Years as a married couple! Within a years time we have gone from engaged to married! It’s amazing what can happen in a year. Last year we were ringing in the New Year by partying on the USS York in Charleston with cocktails and This New Year’s Eve we stayed inside (as is the theme of a pandemic) and had our fist visitors, and played board games until almost 3 a.m. - definitely a change of pace from last year!

On New Years Eve we had some of Kamil’s friends, Max and Amy, drive down and spend a few days with us. Since our state still has a 9 p.m. curfew in place, we opted to hang at our place and have some heavy appetizers and cocktails for dinner. Kamil made super yummy homemade buffalo chicken empanadas and then I cooked up some BBQ meatballs and threw together a charcuterie board for dinner. We opened a few bottles of wine for Amy and I, Max and Kamil enjoyed plenty of whiskey cocktails, and we introduced them to our new favorite game Code Names! Seriously, the game is so addictive, so if you’re looking for a new board game to play with friends definitely check this one out.

New Year’s Day was unfortunately super cold and rainy but we still made the best of it by heading out to Raleigh to check out some local breweries. The first place we stopped was Crank Arm Brewing which had a funky bike theme to the entire spot. Next we went by Wye Hill and had lunch and some brews. The guys really enjoyed the beer here as well as the beer cheese dip with thick home chips. I had a gluten free falafel waffle with beet puree, toasted chickpeas and a fresh green salad which was absolutely heavenly! We finished our brew tour in Durham at Bull City Ciderworks.

Our Engageiversary

On January 1, 2020 Kamil proposed to me in beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina. I planned a photoshoot for us in Charleston to commemorate our first New Year together and the beautiful background that is Charleston. Well, as we were walking between the Battery and Rainbow Row we came across this gorgeous alley called Longitude Alley. Kamil proposed in the middle of the cobblestones and greenery and it was magical! Then we went to a beautiful dinner at SNOB (Slightly North of Broad) and enjoyed the rest of the night calling and Facetiming our friends and family, sharing the happy news. So happy engagement anniversary my love!

The Marriage Journal

Right after we got engaged one of the first things I purchased was the Marriage Journal from Audrey and Jeremoy Roloff. Their ministry, called Beating 50 Percent, is based around building strong, communicative, and growing marriages that are centered in faith, love and communication. Each week the journal poses questions that you ask your spouse to help foster open and honest communication and allow a safe, designated time to discuss topics. The Journal has provided Kamil and I a specific opportunity every Sunday afternoon to examine the prior week, discuss anything ranging from is there any unconfessed hurt or frustration that’s still bothering us to what brought us joy this week, and look ahead at the upcoming week. This has been such a blessing to start off our marriage in such an open, honest and communicative way! It has set our weeks up for success in being on the same page, and ends our week in a way that puts to rest any unresolved conflicts and sharing what’s on our heart. Whether you’ve been married for six months, six years or sixteen years, this is a great tool to start implementing into your week! Check out the Roloff’s website for more information on their books and ministry.

Visit to Greensboro … and Zoe time

My dad was out of town this week for work (one of the first times he’s flown for work in practically a year) so I went home and had some girl time with Mom and Zoe! I worked from there during the day and our evenings were spent drinking rose, eating lots of fish (my dad doesn’t like fish so they don’t make it much when he’s around), and watching the Crown! Oh and of course, lots of Zoe cuddle time.

LOVE,
